Hello there. I'm glad I found this community...I'd like to ask a favor of all of you. I've a friend who's going to be in Japan for a while, and I have given him money so he can buy me some Japanese-language history books. But, although he knows the topics I'm interested in, he wants me to name him some specific book titles to look for. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any concerning the information I want to find. Right now my interest is the Sengoku Jidai, particuraly the late Uesugi clan. The rivarly between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, Uesugi Kagetora, and the Otate no Ran are my main concerns (I've also got a weird fixation with Tokugawa era boy prostitutes, but if I had my poor friend go out in public and buy books on that, he'd cry). It can be said that I'm a little more fascinated by the personalities involved than the historical events themselves...

So, could anyone name me a few titles, please? Some English-language book suggestions would also be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Well, I've read a few English translations of some Japanese history books. Tales of Genji, Heike no Ran, Taiheiki, and Hagakure. These were from different eras that the Sengoku Jidai.

I've also read many books by Stephen Turnbull, who writes a lot about the Takeda/Uesugi battles, especially the Kawanakajima battles and onto the destruction of the Takeda by Oda.

Anyway, hope that helps.
